Recently, a construction client of ours was working on a substantial contract at a major oil refinery. However, work came to a stop due to flooding in the areas where daily operations took place. The situation demanded an urgent resolution, as essential deadlines were at risk, and the work could not resume until the flooding was efficiently managed.

The Challenge
A full investigation of the pump operation revealed that two bays were rapidly filling up with a mixture of thick oily silt and seawater from the nearby surroundings. This became more challenging as the fluids and silt had to be pumped a distance of 50m to reach a waiting tanker.
To complicate the situation, the pump had to be suspended from a crane to effectively and swiftly pump the flooded bays dry.
The Solution
For this application, we selected a 3” Sanitary Diaphragm Pump (model TX820STT) due to these characteristics:
- A powerful, robust and versatile design.
- ATEX rated: Meets specific regulations for pumping chemicals.
- AISI 316 Stainless Steel construction with PTFE internals.
- Self-priming up to 9 meters and air-operated, which made it ideal for the specific application.
- Features eye hooks so it can be hung from a crane.
- Flap valves: Allow large volumes of liquids containing solids (up to 15mm) to be pumped.
- Optional Pneumixer: Helps keep the silt from settling at the bottom of the storage tank.

- Maintenance-free ball check valve system
- Total visual inspection of the wetted parts
- Supports CIP and SIP & can turn 360° to drain the pump
- Manifold clamps and the housing screws are simply removed for complete disassembly and cleaning
- Clean face, no-nut diaphragms to reduce the risk of leakage and make cleaning simple
